Simple Pie Crust Recipe



Anyone can make this simple pie crust recipe.

A homemade crumb crust, full of texture and flavor, it is quick and easy to make. Best of all, this recipe for pie crust doesn’t require rolling dough. Just mix the ingredients together and pat them into the pie plate.

With basic ingredients that you probably have on hand, this easy recipe for pie crust can be varied to make many different pie crusts. Graham crackers, gingersnaps, chocolate wafers, cereal, coconut and even pretzels can be used to make a tasty simple pie crust.

A quick and easy recipe, the preparation for any of these crusts can be done in a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor, simply place broken crackers, wafers, cereal or pretzels in a sealable food storage bag, seal it and roll with a rolling pin until finely crushed. You can also purchase commercially ground crumbs in an assortment of flavors.

While the preparation instructions are for a chocolate Graham cracker crust, the preparation process is the same for all of these simple pie crust recipes, whichever ingredients you use. When teamed with chilled fillings, crumb crusts are usually baked slightly to set the crumbs. When used for frozen fillings, crumb crusts need no baking.

Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust

  • 1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 20 cracker squares)
  • 2 squares (1 ounce each) semi-sweet chocolate, finely grated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

Gingersnap Crust

  • 1-1/2 cups gingersnap crumbs (about 30 small gingersnaps)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

Chocolate Wafer Crust

  • 1-1/4 cups chocolate wafer crumbs (about 24 wafers)
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

Pretzel Pie Crust

  • 1-1/2 cups pretzel crumbs
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

Cereal Crust

  • 1-1/2 cups crushed cereal (cornflakes, rice cereal or wheat cereal)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

Coconut Pie Crust

  • 2 cups flaked coconut
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. In food processor bowl with metal blade, place Graham crackers, chocolate and sugar. Cover and process 15 to 20 seconds or until crackers are finely and uniformly crushed. With food processor running, drizzle melted butter through feed tube, pulsing to mix well. If mixing by hand, place Graham cracker crumbs, chocolate and sugar in a small bowl, stirring to mix. Add melted butter and stir until well combined.

3. Press crumb mixture evenly into bottom and up sides of ungreased 9-inch pie pan or glass pie plate. Bake 5 to 8 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and cool completely before filling.
