Chocolate Caramel Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 package (18.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix with pudding
  • Water, oil and eggs as directed on cake mix package
  • 1 package (14 ounces) caramels
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup chopped dry roasted peanuts
  • 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.

2. Prepare cake mix according to package directions.

3. Pour half of the batter into prepared baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Cake will not test done. Remove cake from oven and let cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.

4. In a sauce pan, combine caramels, butter and milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until caramels melt. Remove from heat and spread mixture over cake.

5. Sprinkle peanuts and chocolate chips evenly over caramel mixture. Pour remaining cake batter evenly over top.

6. Return the cake to the oven and bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cake cool in pan on a wire rack. Cut cake into squares to serve.
