Chocolate Cake Mix Recipes



Craving chocolate cake but don’t have a lot of time to bake? These chocolate cake mix recipes are quick and easy. With little effort, you can be enjoying a scrumptious dessert in no time at all.

There is a wide variety of cake mixes available today from moist, super moist, moist deluxe to classic. For those with special dietary needs, there are even gluten free and sugar free boxed cake mixes.

Be sure to read the label of the cake mix you plan to use when making any of these chocolate cake mix recipes as each cake mix will vary the amount of oil and eggs that are needed.


Chocolate Mocha Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 ounces) devil’s food or chocolate cake mix
  • Oil and eggs as directed on package
  • 1 cup cold strong black coffee

Mocha Butter Frosting
  • 1/3 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cold strong black coffee

Preparation

1. Prepare cake mix as directed substituting 1 cup of cold strong black coffee for the water. Bake as directed. Let cake cool completely before frosting.

2. To prepare Mocha Butter Frosting: With mixer set on medium speed, blend butter and powdered sugar together. Stir in 3 tablespoons cold coffee until smooth. Spread frosting on cooled cake.


Cherry Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix
  • Water, oil and eggs as directed on package
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped maraschino cherries, well drained

Cherry Buttercream Frosting
  • 1/3 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla or almond extract
  • 4 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped maraschino cherries, well drained

Preparation

1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Stir in 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries. Bake as directed in cake pans or 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking pan. Remove from oven. Let cool completely.

2. To prepare frosting: Blend butter and powdered sugar. Stir in vanilla and maraschino cherry juice until smooth. Add maraschino cherries and stir. Frost cooled cake.


Chocolate Peppermint Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 ounces) chocolate or devil’s food cake mix
  • Water, oil and eggs as directed on package
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
  • 1/3 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons cream
  • 3 squares (3 ounces) unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • Crushed peppermint candy, optional

Preparation

1. Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Stir in peppermint extract. Bake as directed. Let cake cool before frosting.

2. To prepare frosting: Blend butter and confectioners’ sugar. Stir in vanilla, cream and melted chocolate until smooth. Frost cooled cake. Sprinkle bits of peppermint candy on top, if desired.
